Travis Wireback, LCSW

Primary Therapist

I was born and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina.  I moved to the Asheville area to complete my undergraduate education at Brevard College.  Upon graduation, I began a rewarding experience in wilderness therapy, where I supported youth in crisis as a field staff providing direct care.  During my time working in wilderness, I progressed to the level of Master Wilderness Instructor before pursuing a Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  While participating in UNC-Chapel Hill’s M.S.W. program, I interned in both the Chatham County school system as a primary therapist and at a prominent wilderness therapy program where I focused on designing interventions, providing psychoeducation to families, and therapeutically facilitating family reunions.  After earning a Master’s in Social Work, I provided multi-systemic therapy to adolescents and pre-adolescents whose families were in crisis.

I bring skills learned from these different experiences to my position at the Asheville Academy for Girls.  I believe in the importance of learning through experience, building new skills and learning how to apply them in familiar environments, fostering growth in family relationships, and the importance of a strengths focused approach.  My passion is supporting pre-adolescent and adolescent youths and their families as they develop the skills to succeed as individuals, as a family, and in their community.   In order to achieve these goals I bring a focus not just on the individual and her areas for development, but also on the family and their community.

My experience includes working with depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, emotional dysregulation, trauma, attention deficits, family dynamics, family systems, and social isolation/skill building.  My Master’s degree in Social Work was received from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, in Chapel Hill, NC.  I have been working therapeutically with preadolescents, adolescents and their families since 2010 and hold an Associate Licensure in Clinical Social Work in North Carolina.
