Lauren Williamson, MA, LPCA, NCC

Lauren was born in New Orleans and has lived in Asheville since 2009. She fell in love with the mountains during her undergraduate education at Warren Wilson College and has completed her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She is excited to be a part of the Asheville Academy for Girls team, with its focus on relationships as the heart and foundation of healing.

Lauren began her work in the mental health field as a direct care staff in a residential setting with adolescent girls. She quickly found her life’s calling in the helping profession and decided to pursue her career as a therapist. Since that time, she has worked with individuals and families experiencing homelessness, young adults with chronic mental health challenges, college students, children in the school system, and families with children facing out-of-home placement. These experiences have provided Lauren with a deep appreciation for the struggles of both individuals and their family systems face, and the strength it takes to ask for help. She enjoys supporting clients in their difficult journey from childhood to adolescence and building upon their personal strengths towards a happier life.

Lauren has received additional training in treatment modalities such as play therapy, sand tray therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. She is experienced working with children with anxiety, depression, attachment concerns, family difficulties, and externalizing behaviors.

She enjoys spending her time submerged in water, being with animals of all kinds, and Cajun food.
