self confidence tips

Muhammad Ali isn’t just remembered as one of the greatest–if not the greatest–boxers of all time, he’s also remembered for his outward confidence that started from the beginning and went all the way to the end. Many self confidence tips can be gathered from Ali’s plethora of wise words.

Self confidence tips from Muhammad Ali

Keep it positive.
“It’s the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen.”

This is probably one of the most prominent self confidence tips from Muhammad Ali. From the beginning, Muhammad Ali would claim he was “the greatest.” He believed that if you believe in yourself, you can make things happen–and he did become “the greatest.” You can have people believe in you–and that helps–but if you don’t believe in yourself, you won’t be able to move forward. The way you do that is to keep negative thoughts out. Stay positive and try to find the silver-lining in any situation.

Learn from failure.
“Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with the extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even.”

Ali is right; it takes failure to know and reach success. If you’ve never failed, how can you keep going when it finally does get tough? Your failures don’t define you, but they do help you recognize what you did wrong and how to change it.

Sometimes a risk is worth taking.
“He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.”

This is one of the most important self confidence tips because it helps build self confidence. If you can overcome a fear and take a risk, even if it doesn’t go as well as you hoped, you did it! Sure, it’s easy to continue to do the same things everyday and get into a boring routine, but what does that accomplish? If you have fears–like public speaking–maybe it’s time to take a risk. Let go of the anxiety of it, detach yourself from the judgement of others, and just try your best: I bet the outcome won’t be nearly as horrific as you believe it will be.

Don’t self-sabotage.
“It isn’t the mountains ahead to climb that wear you out; it’s the pebble in your shoe.”

If you have a large challenge you have to confront, it won’t be the challenge itself that brings you down, it’ll be your lack of self-belief that will. Get rid of that pebble, believe in yourself, and overcome that obstacle that best that you can–because what else can you do? Whether that’s working through a mental illness or getting yourself to work out once a day, if you believe you can do it, it’ll become a lot easier to do.
