The most effective programs focus on the value of the residential life environment. Residential life comprises a good portion of the students’ day.
From morning wake up, school, activities, meals, homework, off-campus adventures, games, talent shows, and skits, students and residential life staff spend a lot of time together.
At Asheville Academy, one of the best therapeutic boarding schools for girls, the students’ hard work at school or with their therapist comes to fruition during residential life. This is when students put their new found skills, confidence, and abilities to work, whether they are working through math homework, choosing whose turn it is pick the next game they play, or thinking about how to manage a troubling situation with a friend.
These are the situations many of the students have struggled with back home and these are the kinds of moments where we work to build healthier responses and skills.
On a typical day there is one staff member for every four students to ensure a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment. We work diligently to find staff members who have the patience and passion to help our young girls make lifestyle changes.
As one of the top therapeutic boarding schools for girls, our residential life staff must be great communicators—both with students and the rest of our clinical, academic, and leadership team—in order to understand where students are succeeding and struggling. By modeling great communication, the res life staff also provide positive role models for how to use the tools and skills students learn in therapeutic sessions, groups, and through their phase work.
Something that makes our school one of the best therapeutic boarding schools for girls is it’s location. Our campus sits on a beautiful and scenic 25 acres with large common areas, beautiful pond, large fields, separate school building, and horses along other animals, such as chickens, ducks, and goats right on campus. We enjoy every part of our private campus nestled in a mountain valley outside Asheville.
Every day is scheduled with a mix of activities, academics, clinical work, and healthy food! We leave personal time for books, games, and hanging out with new friends, too.
We know that the first few days can often be the most challenging. New people, new locations, and new situations can be overwhelming. As one of the best therapeutic boarding schools for girls, we work hard with every student (and their family back home) to start with a welcoming environment.
Students arrive and are greeted by one or two of their roommates and one of our experienced residential life staff, who will help them move in and help facilitate the transition throughout their first couple of days.
