A Therapeutic Boarding School with a Challenging and Supportive School Curriculum

Asheville Academy creates a challenging, supportive, college preparatory learning environment. Our curriculum includes a wide breadth of offerings in Mathematics, English, Literature, Science, and Social Sciences plus elective options designed to enhance the school experience.

Asheville Academy is more than a therapeutic boarding school because we utilize a combination of NC and national standards to create our curriculum led by licensed teachers in a specific school environment. Since our young girls come from all over 20 states, meeting national standards is important. 

Accredited Academics and Talented Teachers

The average class size at Asheville Academy is 8 students per 1 teacher. All of our teachers are state certified in the content they teach. Our academic program is licensed by the North Carolina Department of Non-Public Education as a traditional private school. We are accredited by AdvancEd, the umbrella organization for SACS/CASI. All our credits transfer nationally.

At Asheville Academy we look to create a modified high school preparatory curriculum that will give middle school girls a preview of their high school years. 

Successful Transitions 

We recognize that success in their next academic placement is crucial to  students’ all-around success after Asheville Academy. We are proud of the students success after they leave Asheville Academy  as(75% of  AAG girls’ transition to private day schools, 15% matriculate to boarding schools, and 10% enroll in public day schools. 

Curriculum Examples

5th-10th grade Language Arts

Course Offerings: American Literature, British Literature, World Literature

Integrated Literature, Grammar/Writing & Composition. Based on one of three “regions” annually: British, American or World. Vocabulary is built from current classroom context. Grammar units serve as bookends to literary units and are also based on the current classroom context. Composition provides the overall foundation of the course, directly related to the literature, vocabulary, and grammar being taught.

5th-10th grade Social Studies

Course Offerings: United States History, European History, World History, Civics (includes a unit on Economics)

Thematically aligned annually with Language Arts course. Based on three regions of interest: Europe, United States, and World.

5th-10th grade Science

Course Offerings: Biology, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Physics, Physical Science

Based annually on one of three areas of study: Earth/Environmental Science, Life Science/Biology, or Physics/Physical Science. Lab work is emphasized in the high school levels, and project based learning (do instead of listen) is emphasized with all grade levels.

5th-7th grade Math

Course Offerings: Math 5, Math 6, Math 7

Review of elementary math concepts and introduction and preparation for Algebra.

7th-8th grade Math

Course Offerings: Pre-Algebra

Asheville Academy’s goal is to have all 8th graders complete Algebra if they are able. Pre-Algebra begins with a brief review of core math concepts, and quickly moves into Algebra.

8th-10th grade Math: Algebra and Geometry

Course Offerings: Algebra, Geometry

Education on the principles of Algebra and Geometry.

Study Hall: Asheville Academy requires all students to attend study hall upon enrollment. Study hall is a monitored homework time.

Fine Arts/Elective Offerings: Asheville Academy strives to respond to student needs and interest to explore new areas of knowledge. That means electives are constantly evolving and changing. Courses we will potentially offer:
