Perhaps the most important benefit of the Asheville Academy experience is how we help reconnect each young, struggling girl with her family.
Families tell us their family dynamic feels “broken” or their time and energy spent on one child is hurting their ability to be fair to their other children. Of course, the young girls who join us have a mixture of feeling like failures, low self-respect, or issues with how they are portrayed within the family, too.
It all adds up to families that need relief. Asheville Academy’s family approach can do just that. Family visits serve as an invaluable experience during your daughter’s journey with us.
Within 24 hours of arrival families hear from Asheville Academy about how their child is transitioning. Within the first two weeks the girl’s teacher guide and our owner, Cat Jennings, will call the family.
This is only the beginning of our communication. Every week there is a 90 minute Family Call which includes parents speaking directly to child’s therapist and then daughter included in the communication as well. This is an excellent time to reconnect, repair, and rebuild a healthier, happier dynamic. Plus, each week the girl’s teacher guide provides progress updates on the child.
We do all of this to help keep our parents informed of their child’s success. In our decades of experience working with adolescents, we also understand that continued success at home depends on the functioning family dynamic back home.
Families work directly with their child’s therapist to determine the best time to visit. As part of the healing process we know parents and children need to reconnect. As parents ourselves, we also know you miss your child and want to see them. Therefore, you don’t need to wait until a Family Seminar to spend time with your struggling girl. We find the right time therapeutically and with your schedule for visits, whether it is for the day or overnight.
This level of personalization and customization is part of makes Asheville Academy unique and helps the students achieve great success.
Every quarter we invite families to come in for our comprehensive Family Seminars. These Seminars are a powerful experience where parents find solace and connect with other families, gain invaluable parenting skills and advice, and repair and rebuild relationships with their struggling girl.
Typically, the Seminars include parent training, group parent therapy, psychoeducational development, and experiential learning. All of this happens with staff and other parents as well as with parents and child. Attendance is not required, although most families find it to be an opportunity they do not want to miss.
At the most recent family seminar, one hundred percent of families agreed that the event helped their family therapeutically.
We strive to provide multiple programs for troubled pre-teens and the families back home in order to help the family heal and move forward in a positive direction. We understand the importance of helping every struggling girl individually and working with every family to help continue the changes at home.
