Sara is the science teacher at Asheville Academy. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education, specializing in Biology from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. Prior to teaching, she worked in multiple areas of biology, including turfgrass manager for the Asheville Tourists baseball team and assisting in turfgrass genetic research at Penn State University. Throughout this time, she’s led education seminars for her peers as well as worked with children at public science conventions. Sara enjoys getting to know her students in the small classroom setting here at Asheville Academy. She is passionate about science and teaching students about the wonders of the world around us through hands-on exploration. Aside from her interests in teaching, she is an avid outdoors-woman who enjoys hiking with her husband and their dogs, canoeing the local waterways, mountain biking, and studying the ecology of western North Carolina.
